Connecting with Volunteers: Orientation and Open House

Connecting with Volunteers: Orientation and Open House

By Kristine Johnson

Volunteers serve as an integral role in our programs, workshops/trainings, special events and fundraising. The gift of volunteer time and special talents helps us continue the work we do within the community. January 26th we held an orientation and open house at the Leah’s Pantry offices to connect with people interested in learning more about the work we do and how they can offer their time and talent.

Staff members gave brief introductions to the various areas volunteers are able to offer support: workshops, special projects and community events, training programs, administrative, photography/media and EatFresh.org recipe evaluation and photo instruction. Erin prepared the Tuna Salad with Pears recipe, giving guests a visual example of the cooking and sampling we do in each of our workshops. Alex followed up with a brief introduction to and presentation of Cook-It! Kits. Following presentations, we engaged in conversation where potential volunteers inquired about Leah’s Pantry’s culture, clients and work within the community. It was a great event and guests eagerly expressed interest in particular areas they feel they’d like to share their talent and time.

We’re excited to have volunteers become further involved in the work we do and have plans for future volunteer events in the near future. If you’d like to attend a volunteer open house or have inquiries regarding volunteer opportunities contact us.
