CalFresh Healthy Living Tribal Expansion Project Final Report
Updated on:
This report outlines the background, implementation, and outcomes of the Tribal Expansion Project from 2021 through 2026. Developed by the Public Health Institute Center for Wellness and Nutrition in partnership with the California Indian Museum and Cultural Center, the initiative centered on California Tribal voices to expand culturally responsive nutrition education, strengthen community partnerships, and promote food sovereignty. Guided by the Tribal Ambassadors Committee, the project produced culturally tailored resources, including the Traditional Roots Cookbook and Indigenous recipe cards, and supported local pilot projects across the state. In response to the federal elimination of SNAP-Ed funding, the document provides key evaluation data, sustainability frameworks, and lessons learned to help community partners sustain Indigenous-led public health efforts.
