Parents Aren’t Good Judges of Their Kids’ Sugar Intake

Parents Aren’t Good Judges of Their Kids’ Sugar Intake

Research found that parents consistently underestimate the amount of sugar in their kids’ food and beverages. This happens when we do Rethink Your Drink in our workshops; participants are SHOCKED when they see how many teaspoons of sugar are in their favorite beverages, including “healthy” ones like juice, tea, and vitamin water. This “health halo” effect is called out in the study; researchers believe it’s why parents grossly underestimate the amount of sugar in yogurt, for example. They (and so do we) advocate for sweetening your own foods and drinks, which might reduce sugar intake and also increase awareness. #rethinkyourdrinkinaction
