DAS Nutrition Education

Leah’s Pantry is collaborating with the S.F. Department of Disability and Aging Services to provide nutrition education and physical activity to eligible older adults and adults with disabilities.

Nutrition Education and Physical Activity: 

Food Smarts and Everybody Loves Line Dancing Workshops

We teach a weekly workshop series using our Food Smarts curriculum at various sites and online, where participants:

  • Learn how to plan tasty, balanced meals
  • Discover simple strategies for healthy eating
  • Engage in fun activities and cooking demonstrations

We also teach a weekly workshop series using the Everybody Loves Line Dancing Curriculum, where participants:

    • Engage in fun and engaging exercise that is low-impact and accessible to people of all abilities
    • Move and interact with others without the need for a dance partner
    • Learn simple nutrition concepts and recipes to improve health

Duration: 60 minutes per workshop, once a week over six consecutive weeks (duration can vary by site)

Participation: Participants do not have to attend all workshops, but it is highly encouraged!

Eligibility: Participants must be 60 years or older, or an adult with a disability who resides in San Francisco.

Meet Our Workshop Facilitators!

Lura Jones, Nutrition Educator & Senior Programs Manager

Language capacity: English

 

Lura Jones joined Leah’s Pantry in April of 2023 as the San Francisco Programs Manager. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from Portland State University. She has worked as a passionate Nutrition Educator and Program Director since 2015 in Portland, OR. Lura recently returned to her native state of California to continue her work in trauma-informed nutrition initiatives.

Crystal Huang, Program Coordinator & Nutrition Educator

Language capacity: English & Cantonese

Crystal Huang joinedLeah’s Pantry in April 2024 as the Cantonese Nutrition Educator. She holds a B.S. in Clinical Nutrition from UC Davis and is passionate about using her knowledge to promote healthier lifestyles, prevent chronic diseases, and enhance overall well-being. In her spare time, Crystal enjoys traveling, hiking, and running.

Zonia Wong, Nutrition Educator

Language capacity: English, Spanish, Cantonese

Zonia received herB.S in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Finance from UNFV in Lima, Peru as the Class Valedictorian and has attained multiple professional certifications since then. She has also completed a Leadership Program in Business Administration and Management at UCLA Extension.

Zonia speaks English, Spanish, and Chinese fluently. She ispassionate about education and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Through her training and life experience, she has learned the impact that food and lifestyle modifications can make in people’s lives. This knowledge fuels her passion for educating others about how their bodies work and how they can incorporate diet and lifestyle changes to lead healthier lives. She enjoys traveling, and learning from different cultures. Sheis currently living in San Francisco, California with her family.

Estela Sainez, Nutrition Educator

Language capacity: English & Spanish

Estela is a Bilingual Community Health Educator, a former San Mateo County Benefits Analyst with knowledge of all programs, and Child Development educator with experience in teaching adults and children. She enjoys spending time with family, friends and traveling. She enjoys making and creating crafts.

My Thi Ha, Nutrition Educator

Language capacity: English, Cantonese

My Thi is a bilingual nutrition educator dedicated to promoting healthy eating habits among elder communities. With a background in linguistics and a passion for public health, she combines culturally relevant knowledge with evidence-based nutrition guidance to help older adults make informed food choices. Fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and Vietnamese, she strives to create an inclusive and respectful learning environment where elders feel heard, supported, and empowered. Her approach emphasizes affordable and nourishing meals that enhance overall wellness and quality of life.

Christina Liu, Nutrition Educator

Language capacity: English, Cantonese

Christina Liu joined Leah’s Pantry as a Nutrition Coach in October 2025. She studied Sociology at UC San Diego and believes that food is one of the most powerful ways to connect people and strengthen communities. After attending public school in San Francisco and spending several years in Singapore, Christina returned to San Francisco with a renewed passion for helping others build healthy, joyful relationships with food. In her free time, she enjoys climbing and exploring nature.

Annalisa Carrillo-Fulk, Line Dancing Instructor

Language capacity: English

Annalisa was a student of Ballet and Contemporary since the age of 5 and began teaching social-style Salsa in 2019. In 2022, she launched a Salsa Suelta series in Santa Cruz, CA, where her core students were senior community members, and she found her people. Annalisa began teaching her first non-Salsa line dance classes with Leah’s Pantry in July 2024. She is committed to inclusivity and creating a transparent, enjoyable space to move, groove, shake, and boogie however it feels good in your body.

This program serving the community is funded by the City of San Francisco’s Department of Disability and Aging Services.
