Fostering Nourished Families
Program Overview
Fostering Nourished Families is a trauma-informed curriculum to provide nutrition training to resource (foster) caregivers. The curriculum is designed to build resource parent skill and confidence to support both the immediate and long-term nutritional well-being of foster children. The curriculum consists of 3, three-hour lessons and can be taught as single sessions or a series.
Curriculum Components:
- Lesson plans and instructions for virtual or in-person facilitation
- Slide Deck
- Participant guidebooks (print and digital versions)
- Companion videos
-
- Point of view of caregivers
- Point view of former foster youth
- Advanced content from a nutritionist
Implementation:
There are a variety of ways you can use this curriculum to support anyone who cares for foster children:
- Partner with your county’s Foster and Kinship Caregiver Education (FKCE) program: The Fostering Nourishing Families curriculum is primarily designed to provide re-certification training for resource (foster) caregivers within the California Community College system. Colleges in several counties are ready to partner with SNAP-Ed implementers to deliver the workshops. Leah’s Pantry will connect and help support you in creating new partnerships.
- Use this curriculum as a training and technical assistance resource: This curriculum can serve as a training and capacity-building toolkit in agencies, schools, and other sites that need resources for working with foster families and children. Use it as a training for staff or guardians/caregivers.
