Food Smarts for Adults

Overview

This flexible, evidence-based nutrition curriculum is designed for leading nutrition education group workshops with adults. The interactive, learner-centered activities and discussions support participants’ food and nutrition literacy, nutrition security, and adoption of healthy dietary and lifestyle habits.

Participant Goals:

  • Set goals for a healthier life
  • Identify the fundamentals of a healthy diet
  • Develop awareness of how food is processed and marketed 
  • Acquire lifestyle practices for good health
  • Learn time-saving, budget-friendly skills for shopping, planning, and meal preparation to sustain a healthy diet
  • Learn strategies for navigating the food environment

  • Applying nutrition concepts to daily life

  • Practicing food resource management skills
  • Cooking demonstrations or hands-on cooking

Training Description

Become a Food Smarts Curriculum facilitator and deliver healthy, nutritional cooking lessons and nutrition messaging aligned with trauma-informed principles to your community.

After successfully completing Food Smarts, you will be able to:

  • Facilitate Food Smarts workshops in your community with youth and adult participants
  • Incorporate a trauma-informed perspective into nutrition education and workshop facilitation
  • Utilize the Food Smarts lesson plans and curriculum materials to tailor your workshops to your community
  • Note: Food Smarts Waste Reduction, materials are not covered in this training
