Overview

Food Smarts for College Students

This evidence-based, flexible curriculum is designed for leading nutrition workshops with college-aged young adults. The interactive food and nutrition literacy and meal preparation activities guide them to  improved food and nutrition literacy, greater nutrition security, and the adoption of healthy dietary habits for their busy lives, limited resources, and growing independence.

Participant Goals:

  • Learn basic nutrition concepts to support physical and mental health
  • Learn time-saving, budget-friendly skills for shopping, planning, and meal preparation to sustain a healthy diet
  • Address changing food choices and eating habits during the college years
  • Strengthen confidence and self-awareness to establish a healthy, independent lifestyle

Activity Highlights:

  • Preparation of balanced and satisfying meals for limited space, budget, and time
  • Peer-to-peer sharing to reinforce healthy habits
  • Discussions about the journey towards responsibility for self nourishment

Audiences:

  • Teens and young adults (18-25)

Training Description

This unique training will equip participants to facilitate the Food Smarts for College Students and Emerging Adults curriculum.  Participants will:

  • Learn how to implement the curriculum
  • Explore the relationship between positive and adverse experiences and nourishment
  • Develop compassionate facilitation strategies
  • Consider best practices for working with this age group
